Great club. I remember when it was gutted and toured the place with Marc Williams. I was a DJ at WRAS and Marc was the Music director plus became the house DJ at 688. Here are two acts from two ends of the spectrum who played 688: The Dead Kennedys and Chubby Checker. I was shocked how many folks were there for Chubby. He put on a great face paced show and the punks were jammin'

i was a 688 regular from 1980 to 1983 and was at all the iggy shows...i believe first show was joan jett in front of about 5 people...huge jason and the nashville scorchers fan which 688 first exposed me to...black flag before henry rolling when dez sang, i got pulled up onstage to sing louie louie, got my lip split open by some ahole on my way up, basically just shouted obscenities spitting blood from my mouth, then dove off the stage, then drove back to west ga college and woke up covered in bruises and welts and loved every minute of the experience....that's 688 to me...one day a biker bar, the next a place for anti-social people like me...i returned towards the end of 1984 and it still had great bands...husker du on valentines day sticks out the most

It seems like I lived in the 688. One night they had a rock 'n roll polka band - it was an absolute blast to dance to them. I was there for several nights of Iggy Pop - there weren't many people there because no one had heard of Iggy. REM was like the house band. Joan Jett was hard core back then. I really loved the night that Jim Carroll played - he was so pale and thin, we wondered if he would live through the first set. The 688 was the first place in Atlanta to have music videos. I still have my t-shirt from the first anniversary of the 688; it is the limited edition version with Sheila, Steve, and Tony's names on it. What ever happened to Baby and the Pacifiers and their club? That was also a fun scene.

I hope someone updates this page someday, but just as it is it brings back memories. Two great music clubs from the days when I didn't need sleep. I still don't need sleep but I do it every now and then.

Also a shout out to Rich and Molly from WRAS (in the 80's) for the B-Sides Show. I actually have a recording of their Radio ad for it, and I also have Mark doing a station ID for Pure Mania. I have been living in Dallas TX since 1988 so I missed out on alot.

I lived in Woodstock back in the 80's and was too young to go to 688 and Metroplex, but I listened to Pure Mania every week and would hear about all the shows. Mark Williams was like an underground hero to me for introducing me to all these great artists. I wish I could have made it to the reunion.

Well, I heard about this great reunion show after it was over and I can see I missed a very cool event. Hopefully it is something that can occur again. I was a member of The Raves during the late 70s through about 1983 and we played the 688 and the Bistro and the Agora, etc. along with all these other groups. Here is a link to a fan website for some memory jolgging about us: https:/www.geocities.com/theraves/start.html . WE would definately like to be a part of anything else that you may plan in the future. All the best. Chuck Yoakum

Some memories at 688: 1) Human Sexual Response playing 'Unba Unba Unbelievable' in those crazy outfits. 2) Dancing wildly to Black Flag 3) Meeting Ru Paul in the bathroom. 688 was the best place for live music in town. Sorry I missed the reunion.

Hi Paul: I am really glad to see that not only is there an Atlanta Music Musesum, but that you are the guy running it! It has been too many years since I was onstage at the Metroplex, but I remember it like it was yesterday. Thanks for keeping some of the best bands in Atlanta "alive" with what you are doing. Curt Rowlett, ex-Tombstones member

I was the Bass player with Phreedy in the Teens in Heat...then Chris Wood asked me to be his bass player in the the Restraints...I hit the needle hard...but survived quite well...Phreedy if you read this...dude you were like a brother...glad you made it...I have done well and traveled the world...been there done that...but nothing will ever be like being on the the stage of the Metroplex or the 688 with my bros in Teens in Heat..... Paul Cornwell...if you read this thanks for all you ever did for me....you were and still seem to be ...the coolest. But just remember...."She gets up in the morning....and she rolls out a bed.....and reaches for her.....Maybaline.....later gators...live well. 3w4n5

I am so sorry that I saw this page just a little too late! I would have loved the reunion on October 4th. I wasn't allowed to go to the Metroplex but somehow ended up there every weekend. Got my teeth knocked out in the pit at Megadeth (those guys still owe me some teeth! ha ha). Got knocked out by a beer bottle that the Antiheroes shook up, spewed, and threw out over the crowd, clocking me between the eyes and I still kept coming back for more. Those were the days and some of the best times of my life and I STILL have my 688 t-shirt that I'm afraid to wash for fear it will disintegrate. When you do another reunion, put me on the list. I'll be there!

Thank you Steve and Paul!!! We did have one hell of a community didn't we? My daughter, Sarah, (a later product of Rick Mertz's and my 688 liaison) finally got to see what all the fuss was about. The Roys need a website and a MySpace page! Pass it along. boy have I missed them. What a show! ET

So sorry I missed the big show!! At least one of my old bands played it! I can't tell you how happy I am to know that their is going to be a museum devoted to that amazing time!

Hi Steve May, KP here! Carol, Kitty and I will see you all tonight at the reunion!! Looking forward to reminiscing. Where is Drivin and Cryin tonight? Seems like you are missing a piece without Kevin Kinney. As far as the memories go, wow, the river runs deep and wildly wide!!! KP Hendry

This is really cool. It will be nice to see every one and have our own personal "where are they now ?" for the old Atlanta music scene.

My fondest memories of 688 are of sitting under the bar talking philosophy with like minded souls, a great band is playing and the music is pulsating through me while my boyfriend at the time, Frank Fife is throwing one of the bathroom toilets through a wall ,nearly missing a few heads. I stop my "under the bar conversation" and jump up only to filng myself upside down into a handstand against the same wall and meet some new people. 688 gave me a different way of looking at life and the understanding to live in the moment.
